The Tragic Desecration Of The Nigerian Flag And The Bloodstains Of Innocent (EndSARS)Peaceful Protesters In Nigeria: A Cry To United Nations And Other International Unions For Swift Intervention -By Emmanuel Menseh Madaki, Esq.
The Nigerian National Flag was established by the Flag and Coat of Arms Ordinance Act No. 48 of September 16, 1960 now Cap. 148 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. The Nigerian Green-White-Green National flag which symbolizes the sovereignty or authority and instrument of state power of our dearCountry was designed in 1959 preparatory to independence from the colonialists and was first hoisted on the 1st of October 1960. Next to mother earth, it is the only National symbol worth dying for. The Flag brings to mind memories of sacrifice thereby inspiring unity, peace and patriotism. The National Flag remains an insignia or emblem of national prosperity, nationalism and development in all spheres of national existence.
There is an age long Latin maxim and aphorism that states that “Vox Populi Vox Dei, which means the voice of the people is the voice of God”. The fluidity of the vagaries of times further justifies the utter significance of this maxim especially when juxtaposed with the realities of ages and pressing demands for good and responsive governance and engaging governments of modern nations to be responsive to the plights and nauseating woes of her citizenry.
Excruciatingly sardonic is the culmination of the activities of the ENDSARS peaceful Protesters and intentional movements craving for the end to police brutality, bad governance, nepotism, ethnocentrism and blatant vestiges of maladministration in the country under the watch of a visibly incompetent and clueless government headed by President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR who has continued to maintain and sustain vexatious numbness, dumbness and cantankerous indifference in the face of gruesome massacre of peaceful unarmed protesters whose only weapon was chanting the national anthem in the course of their lawful protest when men of the Nigerian army bazooka the unarmed protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos, Nigeria on the 20-10-2020.
The sordid massacre of the innocent unarmed protesters who are constitutionally empowered to protest and ventilate their grievances and perceived agitations under a constitutional democracy as guaranteed by our extant laws where disagreements with unpopular government policies are part and parcel of the tenets of a democratic system of governance is only orchestrated by movements to widen our dichotomy and heightened more acrimonious ventures.
The infiltrations and adulterations of our national insignia and flag with the bloodstains of innocent Nigerians and the President of Nigeria has not demonstrated any inkling of empathy or deemed it logically significant to address the concerns of the peaceful protesters only points to the fact that the President’s muteness and wordless disposition has further towed the path of the foe and the citizens’ common enemy which is most barbarous, heartless, savage, inhumane and vicious. Nigerians are entitled to good leadership and governance which must be demonstrated by sincere posture from the president who is the Commander-In- Chief of the Armed Forces Federal Republic of Nigeria (GCFR) and any other political office holders in the Country.
Painfully, Nigerians are no longer safe, secure and sure of their existence under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari who has not manifested any moral rectitude and probity to lead the most populous black nation in the world anymore. The leadership of a sane country anywhere in the world cannot go into deep slumber with no modicum of concerns and efforts to quelling unrest while she watches her citizens being murdered in cold blood by armed officers who are being fed and remunerated by tax payers’ money. This is the lowest point Nigeria has degenerated to and all we see is gloom and utter bleakness of the future.
United Nations is therefore invited to see the gory images and bruises of defenseless Nigerians who continue to be subjugated to gross inhumanity by the unpopular militarization of the Nigerian democratic state by a clueless leadership architecture under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari who has adamantly refused and or neglected to conscientiously address the plights of the Nigerian people if not the world will wake up some day to the evaporation and extinction of Nigeria.
All leaders of Nigeria must know that God is watching your careless misdeeds and incongruities and know ye that you will never remain leaders for the rest of your lives, the Youths have set their eyes on the ball and will forever remain unrelenting to the dictates of a struggle for a better country. It is only safe to realize that the answer to all the agitations is to address the plights of the people and equally do away with greed and corrupt tendencies which this government has continued to enjoy if not you will never escape God’s wrath and retribution in this life and the life to come.
President Muhammadu Buhari must act not or else risk seeing Nigeria tear apart under his very own eyes. I know that the Blood of the innocent and peaceful is crying to high heavens for vengeance… a stitch in time saves nine
