Police Brutality: Justice for Aba Lawyer as Abia CP upholds NBA petition, Demotes Rogue policeman as DPO
Justice has been finally served in the case of brutality meted out to Aba Lawyer, Paul Igwe Esq who went through hell in the hands of a crooked Police Divisional Officer, of Eastern Ngwa Police Division at Umuobiakwa, Mr. Okon Ekpe Asuquo CSP on 18th August, 2020 as the DPO has been demoted from his post as DPO and transferred a new post station while investigations continue to ascertain his criminal culpability.
The Abia State Commissioner of Police, upheld the petition from Paul Igwe Esq and NBA Aba Branch and apologized to the Lawyer personally and NBA in general.
Information released from the Assistant Secretary of NBA Aba Branch stated that after the publication of the story by BarristerNG.com , It went viral on social media, and Barr. Igwe forwarded his petition to the IG, Police Service Commission and to the Commissioner of Police, he was invited with NBA Aba Branch Officers to the Commissioner of Police’s office where the matter was addressed and referred for investigation to a section of the Police by the CP. The Section took statements from both the Lawyer and the DPO, and they were asked to return back.
The lawyer was re-invited by the CP and the CP personally tendered her apology to the lawyer and NBA. The CP further swore to met out all necessary disciplinary measures against the DPO.
The Executive of the Nigerian Bar Association, Aba branch later visited the CP where she informed them that the DPO has been transferred to Umuahia and removed as a DPO for further disciplinary actions. The section that the matter was referred to is still investigating and will make their report to the CP for final sanction of the rogue police officer if found criminally culpable.
Mr. Okon Ekpe Asuquo had boasted while brutalizing Mr Igwe who visited his station to represent a client that not even the NBA can do anything to him.
