Lagos Chief Judge releases Directives for Resumption of Magistrate Courts

The Chief Judge of Lagos, Hon. Justice Alogba has issued directives on the resumption of Magistrates Courts in the lagos state.

This directive was made known in a circular signed by the Deputy Chief Registrar (Admin), Ikeja, Mrs. Omolade Awope.

The circular reads in part “I am directed by the Hon. Chief Judge to inform Your Honours of the following:

“All Magistrates Courts on grades level 15 – 17 are to resume back at work immediately and sit thrice weekly.”

Magistrates Courts on grades level 13 – 14 are also to resume work immediately and sit twice weekly.

The circular further states that “Magistrates are to proceed to deliver their pending Judgements/Rulings

“Admin. Magistrates are to prepare rosters for sittings of the Magistrates in their respective districts/sub-districts

“Magistrates are to strictly comply with the Covid-19 directives in respect of sittings

“Only urgent criminal application and overnight criminal cases are to be heard for now

“On no account must Your Honour conduct fresh trials or part-trail”
