An Ogun State based lawyer; who is also the Public Relations Officer/Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ijebu Ode branch Moruff O. Balogun Esq. has hailed the Ex-NBA VP MONDAY UBANI for his readiness to offer free legal services to palliative looters.

Mr. Balogun in his statement; stated that “it is now clear that most state governments are insensitive to the plight of their people. They have shown the highest level of wickedness by hoarding palliative materials in various warehouses across the country despite the level of poverty, hunger etc. ravaging the country.

How can one explain a situation where the government locked people up because of Covie-19 and the palliative materials meant for them especially the less-privileged were equally hoarded? This in my view amounts to a total display of wickedness and callousness on the part of the government.

The government should beg for people’s forgiveness”.

In the last one week, there have been reported cases of residents breaking into warehouses where Covid-19 palliative were hoarded and helping themselves out with the food items for their survival.

Mr. Balogun therefore called on lawyers not to fold hands and watch the government to continue to subject the Nigerians especially the less-privileged to inhumane and degrading treatment the more as some state governments are threatening to prosecute the palliative looters.

Most of the palliative looters are poor Nigerians who could not afford to secure the services of lawyers if charged.

Hence, the need for pro bono legal services becomes necessary.

He equally throws his weight behind a human right activist and gutsy lawyer Mr. Ogungbeje Esq. for instituting N10bn suit against the Federal government on behalf of Lekki Protesters.

He conclusively called on the Judiciary to be bold enough to resist any pressure from government to convict innocent Nigerians in the interest of Justice and National Stability.
