COVID-19: Borno CJ, Justice Zannah suspends Court sittings untill 13th April
Borno State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Kashim Zannah has ordered the suspension of all court sittings in the state.
The chief Judge made this known on Tuesday in a notice made available to BarristerNG.
The CJ noted that the suspension was necessary to preserve human lives.
The notice reads in part: “WHEREAS appropriate response to the Coronavirus pandemic necessitates physical (social) distancing by all persons in order to stem the spread,
“AND court sittings entail close contact of persons and large number of persons gathering in the courtroom,
“In order to safeguard the health and lives of litigants, staff, lawyers, judges, etc. and to stem the spread of the virus, I, HONOURABLE JUSTICE KASHIM ZANNAH, CHIEF JUDGE OF BORNO STATE hereby direct that:
“All courts in the state immediately suspend sittings until the 13th day of April 2020.
All staff and judges observe the recommended distances and desist from crowding spaces, including offices.
“The Vacation Judge of the High Court, the Chief Magistrates Court 1 and the Upper Sharia Court 1 shall be open but only to handle urgent and timebound matters while strictly enforcing the physical (social) distancing requirements.
“All Judges, Staff and Lawyers are advised to seek knowledge of the pandemic through authentic sources https://edition.cnn.com/audio/podcasts/corona-virus and avoid unverified WhatsApp, etc. information As society leaders, you will be believed and taken seriously and misinformation from you may cost lives,”he said.
