Brief profile of M.K. ALAWAYE, the New Chairman, Young Lawyers Forum, Ilorin
The Nigerian Bar Association, Young Lawyers Forum (NBA-YLF) Ilorin Branch yesterday got new Executives to pilot its affairs.
The former Executive led by the brilliant O. D. Jimoh handed over to a new Executive led by Mumeen Kabir ALAWAYE, as Chairman.
Mumeen Kabir ALAWAYE was born in the early 90’s to the family of Alhaji and Alhaja Abdulmumeeen Alawaye. He is a native of Turawa in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Like every Ilorin born, he started his early Islamic education with his uncle, Malam Nuhu Tunde ALAWAYE and later enrolled with Sheikh Ahmad Alaiye madrasah.
He started his Nursery and primary education with Endurance Nursery and Primary School, Adewole Estate, Ilorin where he was appointed as the Headboy of the school. He proceeded to Government Day Secondary School Adewole, Ilorin where he served as the Assembly Prefect, Secretary MSSN and President of the Press Club in his secondary school days. He graduated in flying colours with one of the best SSCE result from the school.
He proceeded to Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (Cails), Ilorin for his Diploma in Shariah and Common Law.
In 2009, he was admitted to study Common and Islamic Law at the better by far University of Ilorin. As a very active and vibrant student among hundreds of his contemporaries in his class, Kabir Alawaye was elected to represent faculty of law at the students’ union level in his 200 level and he would be returned for two more terms after accessing his representation and having been awarded the most active SRC member at the Law Students’ Society dinner and award night. He later rose to become Chairman, Transport Committee of the Unilorin SUG where he performed excellently. His outstanding performance as Chairman Transport propelled him to be re-elected for a third term where he was elected unopposed as Speaker of the Students’ Union, Univeristy of Ilorin. He was renowned for complete overhaul of the laws of the Unilorin Students’ Union and publication of the compendium of the Students’ Union Laws. The law review changed his official nomenclature to becoming the first Senate President and the last Speaker of the Unilorin SUG all in 2013/2014 academic session. He graduated with honour from University of ilorin.
He immediately proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Yola campus for his one year vocational Bar Training. While in Law School, he was elected President of the Students’ Representative Council of the Campus and he was notorious for his track record as students head in the campus.
He was called to the Bar in 2015.
He proceeded for his National Youth Service in Lagos State between 2015 and 2016 where he served with the Lagos State ministry of justice and later deployed to Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperative where he started his legal practice.
Alawaye was part of the team that drafted the notorious Lagos/Kebbi agreement which now produced the popular Lake rice.
He was recognized for his selfless service by the NYSC Lagos state and for being the key figure in the creation of the FOIA cds group in Lagos state where he served as pioneer President of CDS.
He had a brief practice with Cosmopolitan Solicitors in Ketu, Lagos State.
He returned back to Ilorin in 2016 and he has been an active bar man ever since then. He has served in various capacities at the bar level including Member, 2018 Annual Bar Dinner Committee, NBA Ilorin branch, Secretary Continuing Legal Education Committee NBA-YLF Ilorin branch.
In November 2019, Alawaye was elected Chairman Young Lawyers Forum ilorin to succeed O. D Jimoh upon completion of the tenure of the former Chairman.
He was inaugurated on 8th December, 2019 at the well organized Dinner and Award Night/Handing over ceremony.
