You will account to God, CAN tells Sanwo-Olu
The Christian Association of Nigeria, Lagos State, has asked the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to rule with the knowledge that he would give an account of his government to God on the judgment day.
The state Christian body, while seeking support for the governor, urged him to have the fear of God in all his dealings.
The CAN Chairman, Apostle Alexander Bamgbola, spoke on Sunday during an interdenominational thanksgiving service at the Deeper Life Bible Church Headquaters, Gbagada, Lagos.
The 30,000-seater auditorium was filled to capacity as the crowd of worshippers, consisting Christian faithful and leaders, including political and traditional rulers, joined Sanwo-Olu and his wife, Ibijoke, in the service.
The service was hosted by the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi.
In his homily titled, ‘Finishing Well,’ Bamgbola, described life as ‘a race,’ pointing out that Sanwo-Olu’s emergence was a call to service.
While observing that many leaders failed because they sought the pleasure of man and severed their connections with God, he said a leader must be just in deciding the affairs of society.
Reading from 2nd Samuel 23:1-4, the cleric listed attributes of leaders that want to finish well.
“You must run with God if you want to finish the race of life well. Run with fear and pleasure of God. Run courageously and deliberately to win.
“Run the race without worldly distractions. Run with knowledge of eternity, because all leaders will give account of their stewardship on the judgement day. So, you must run the race with the aim to make heaven,” he said to Sanwo-Olu.
The governor, in his response, enjoined residents to obey the law as part of their responsibilities to the state.
Sanwo-Olu said his administration would not spare anyone that endangered the lives of road users by disobeying the state traffic regulations.
He said, “We want the people to obey Lagos traffic law. We want them to understand that they are not the only road users who have right of way. If you want my government to finish well, don’t drive against the traffic.
“We are working with the acting Chief Judge of the state to set up special mobile courts that will dispense judgment on traffic offences. Any offender would be made to serve the punishment immediately, which could be in form of compulsory community service. We are declaring zero tolerance for disobedience to traffic rules.”
The governor said the task of achieving a greater Lagos would be difficult without the support of residents, urging Christians in the state to join hands with him to create a prosperous Lagos.
