YLF: Young Lawyers, abandoned, forgotten by Paul Usoro, SAN led NBA
Barely ten months to the completion of his 2 years tenure as the president of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Paul Usoro SAN has failed to carry Young lawyers along by constituting the leadership of the traditional young lawyers group, “the NBA young Lawyers Forum “.
The NBA YLF has always served as the incubator for learning Leadership by young lawyers and was always among the first forum to be constituted by new executive of the NBA upon assumption of office.
The forum is among statutory fora recognized by the NBA constitution and the procedures for its leadership spelt out by the Association’s law.
The Paul Usoro SAN led NBA seems to deliberately have forgotten the Affairs of the Young Lawyers and has failed to constitute the forums Leadership notwithstanding many promises to do so.
At the just concluded NBA AGC, the NBA President restated his promise to constitute the NBA YLF Leadership and gave a timeline for its constitution, but has again failed to do so two months after the Conference.
Irked by the NBA President’s seemingly deliberate policy to ignore young lawyers, some group of young lawyers operating from the Association’s Branches wrote a letter to the NBA earlier in the year asking for the immediate constitution of the Forums Leadership, but their plea was ignored by the NBA Leadership.
Many young lawyers believe that the NBA Leadership is not concerned about the welfare of Young Lawyers and may harbour a deep seated disdain for the forums existence.
It is in doubt whether the NBA President will constitute the Leadership of the YLF in the remaining ten months of his leadership bearing in mind that the tenure of the YLF usually elapse with that of the constituting administration.
