An Uyo based Legal Practitioner, Paul Alobi Nyambi Esq has narrated an ugly experience in the hands of the O.C. SARS, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State while representing his client.

Mr. Nyambi went to SARS office to represent his client in a case of alleged causing grievous bodily harm on 16/7/2019 but instead was assaulted, humiliated and prevented from performing his professional duties.

This incident remains the countless times lawyers are harassed and embarrassed by security operatives  while performing their lawful duty

Below is Mr. Nyambi’s Story made available to BarristerNG

ASSAULT ON MY PERSON AND INTERFERENCE FROM PERFORMING MY PROFESSIONAL DUTIES FOR MY CLIENTS AT SARS OFFICE, STATE POLICE HEADQUARTERS, UYO, AKWA IBOM STATE BY THE OFFICER COMMANDING, SARS, UYO.
Gentlemen at the Bar, I write to inform you of a most shameful and embarrassing encounter that I had today with no less a person than the O.C. SARS, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State while there to represent my client in a case of alleged causing grievous bodily harm.

My learned friends at the Bar and those who know me can attest to the fact that I am a very courteous and civil person.

All through my 6 Years of active private legal practice, I have never experienced the brazen and unproved assault that I experienced today from the O.C. SARS, Uyo.

After my matter at the Chief Magistrates’ Court 8, Uyo, I received a call from a senior colleague to hold brief for him at the SARS office, Uyo.

I hurriedly drove to the SARS office where I met the clients’ relatives who had briefed the senior colleague.

We met the I.P.O. who asked us to wait for the other Parties as the O.C. had requested to meet the Parties in the case.

After a short while, Counsel for the Complainant walked in but we still needed to wait for the Inspector in charge of the case.

All of a sudden, the O.C. SARS came out and ordered all of us seated at the waiting point to leave, that he will only see the Complainant and the suspects. I explained to him that I am the Solicitor to the suspects but he will hear none of that and asked me to go and wait in Court.

I insisted that the suspects have a right to counsel of their choice.

He tried to pick up a bench to hit me but I stood my grounds while his junior officers intervened and appealed to me to leave.

I left the place in disappointment. Surely, I shall seek redress.

Tomorrow, I shall petition the office of the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State after which I shall consider further legal action.

O.C. SARS, UYO HAS BITTEN MUCH MORE THAN HE CAN CHEW.

Paul Alobi Nyambi, Esq.
