NBADECIDES2018: Still on the issue of Police Brutalization; The rationale behind creating and Funding a Special Office

The major issue militating against the prosecution of cases against the police for the brutalization of lawyers is the fund to pursue the matter before the IGP and police service commission in Abuja to press the petitions against the offending officers.

The victims, usually young lawyers are without the requisite funds to fund senior colleagues to Abuja to see to the logical conclusion of the cases.

It is a fact that most branches lack the resources to fund the ventures, hence the petitions die natural deaths.

The cases in court even if successful can virtually not be enforced.

Emphasis MUST be placed on diligently pursuing petitions before the IGP and police service commission and ensure dismissals.

Now if a petition is received, the special purpose office will raise a team to take on the issue and their logistics like travels, hotel accommodations, allowances etc will be taken care of from the funds set aside for the office.

Their duty is to ensure that dismissals are obtained and the court cases diligently prosecuted and executed.

When we are able to get police officers dismissed, the brutalization of lawyers will cease. The challenge of lack of funds and capacity to see through petitions would have been solved.

Thinking out of the box, and adding value to the Association.

VOTE JOHN AIKPOKPO-MARTINS FOR 2nd VICE PRESIDENT.
