#NBAAGC2019: Football Competitions postponed as Ihiala Branch Protest Disqualification (See Video)
The Local Organising Committee, LOC, of the Annual General Conference of the NBA, has postponed the Football matches earlier scheduled yesterday in reaction to the protest staged by Ihiala Branch over their qualification from the Competition.
The Ihiala Branch was disqualified for allegedly not complying with receipt requirements, a Disqualification they blamed on the Immediate chairman of Lagos Branch, Chukwuka Ikwuazom.
In a message shared by the LOC secretary, the matches for yesterday will now be played today as a result of the Ihiala Branch protest.
Ihiala Branch was to play Lagos Branch when they were informed of their Disqualification and the award of three points to Lagos Branch.
Below is the statement from the LOC Secretary.
2019 NBA AGC FOOTBALL COMPETITION
VENUE: METHODIST BOYS HIGH SCHOOL, 11 SINARI DARANIJO STREET, VICTORIA ISLAND, LAGOS
DATE: 24TH AUGUST, 2019
Round of 16:
Match 1: Owerri 2-0 Ikeja
Match 2: Lagos v. Ihiala- Lagos win by walk over.
The Ihiala team failed to produce branch dues receipt for all of their players. They curiously claimed that the Ihiala Branch doesn’t issue receipts. Rather than produce the receipts which were part of the requirements communicated to all teams weeks ago, the chairman of Ihiala Branch scribbled a hand written note on the Ihiala team sheet purporting to be a confirmation of payment of Branch dues.
The LOC took the decision to disqualify the team and award the match to Lagos.
However the Ihiala team on the orders of their chairman and Secretary refused to leave the pitch and thereby prevented the other two matches from going on.
To avoid an embarrassing situation, the LOC took the decision to postpone the remaining two matches till tomorrow 25/8/19.
