WELCOME TO NBA-AGC; DEMAND FOR THE INCLUSION OF YOUNG
LAWYERS IN THE AFFAIRS OF THE BAR
The Executive Committee of the Young Lawyers Forum, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA -YLF),
Ibadan Branch welcomes all delegates, most especially all young lawyers to the Nigerian Bar
Association Annual General Conference, 2019 (“NBA-AGC”).
We implore all young lawyers to
take full advantage of the Conference for capacity development and networking with colleagues and seniors. Importantly, we bid all young lawyers to also use this avenue to demand for better welfare and their inclusion in the affairs of the Bar.
It is important to point out that the current Leadership of the Bar has refused to arrange for the constitution of the Young Lawyers’ Forum, National almost a year after their inauguration.
The NBA Leadership has successfully ignored all requests made for this purpose including the letter written by the NBA-YLF, Ibadan Branch to the President, Mr. Paul Usoro (SAN) and copied to the General Secretary, Mr. Jonathan Gunu Taidi dated 7th May, 2019 and duly acknowledged by the General Secretary via an email on 11th May, 2019.
Furthermore, we must also draw the attention of all young lawyers to the proposed amendment of the Constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association, (2015) which makes no provision for the inclusion of young lawyers in the administration of the Bar but rather propose the obliteration of some important national offices.
Consequently, we bid all young lawyers to join us as we demand for the constitution of the Young Lawyers Forum, National (by election) and the insertion of provisions that will cater for the welfare and inclusion of young lawyers in the administration and affairs of the Bar in the proposed constitutional amendment.
In this vein, we call on the leaders of YLF branches who will be present at the conference to meet up and deliberate on strategies to further our course.
We wish all delegates a rewarding experience and fruitful deliberations at the Conference. God bless the Nigerian Bar Association.
