Distinguished Silk, Bencher, Senior, Bar Leader and Colleagues.

Dear Sir/Ma

May I, with humility and love, convey to you my desire to run for the office of the Welfare Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association.

I graduated from the Kogi State University in 2004 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2005. In 2009, I obtained a Masters of Law Degree (LL.M) from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

I have been in active private legal practice from my date of call till date and have attended NEC meetings first as observer and as a statutory member, attended all Annual General Conferences and participated at different times in all branch activities at Iwo (Osun), Ilesha (Osun), and Lokoja (Kogi) branches respectively.
As a member of the Lokoja Branch, I had served in the capacity of Assistant General Secretary 2009-2011, appointed as a delegate of the branch for the National Delegate Conference held at Ibadan in 2010, Secretary Dinner Committee in 2010, Treasurer 2011-2013, a delegate of the branch for the National Delegate Conference held at Abuja in 2012, Secretary Welfare/ Security Committee when Lokoja branch hosted NEC in June 2013, a delegate of the branch for the National Delegate Conference held at Abuja in 2014, Secretary of the branch Sept. 2013-Sept. 2015, Secretary Dinner/Fundraising Committee 2014 and 2015, Team Head Kogi State in the 2015 General Election where I coordinated all lawyers in the state who were accredited as INEC domestic observers, for which a letter of commendation was issued to me by Augustine Alegeh SAN, the president of the N.B.A at the end of the exercise.

I was appointed a prosecutor at the Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Committee of the Body of Benchers 2012-2014 and served as the Secretary Nigerian Bar Association Anti-Corruption Commission 2014-2016.

I am married and blessed with two children.

I have had opportunities to interact with colleagues, my exposure to the workings of the Associations’ secretariat and my continuous involvement in our Associations’ activities put me on a pedestal of appreciating welfare related issues.

I have looked at the laudable welfare Policies of the present administration, the constitutional role of the office of the welfare Officer and I undertake to contribute my quota with the view to improving same with your support and cooperation, I promise to dutifully discharge the responsibilities of the office with zeal and work diligently for the enhancement/actualization of the yearnings of our members. I shall serve with a steadfast dedication that stands above self.

It is for this reason that I covet your support and mandate to be your next Welfare Secretary.

Yours faithfully,

Joshua Enemali Usman.
