A Port Harcourt, Rivers State-based lawyer identified as Promise Frank Igwe was on Friday morning killed in what appeared to be an act of assassination.
The incident happened at about 10:00am in a bar in Ozuoba community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that the lawyer’s assailants had stormed the bar after alighting from a car, went straight to their target and shot him four times before leaving the scene.
The victim was said to have been waiting for a client when the gunmen moved in and shot him dead.
An eyewitness said, “We saw them; they were wearing black clothes and one guy now asked them; ‘I hope you people are not coming here to steal. One of them came down and began to shoot.
“Those eating meat and drinking in the bar ran away when they heard the sound of gunshots.”
Southern City News gathered that the bandits took away the man’s mobile phone after killing him while officers from Ozuoba Police Division came in later to evacuate his corpse.
It was also learnt that an unidentified person had called the lawyer to wait for him at the bar and that the deceased ordered for a drink and meat from attendants while waiting before his assailants arrived and killed him.
