NBA Sapele Branch writes ECNBA again, threatens Legal action over disqualification of Members
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Sapele Branch has again written to the Electoral committee of the association registering their displeasure at the refusal of the committee to verify their members since their first letter.
Below is a copy of the letter made available to www.BarristerNG.com
We refer to our previous letter dated 3rd of August, 2018 wherein we complained of the deliberate plan by the ECNBA to disenfranchise 38 qualified members of the NBA Sapele branch from voting in the NBA National election to be held on the 19th and 20th of August, 2018; yet the ECNBA has ignored our protest letter under reference and has equally refused to shift ground. Even at the time of writing this letter, the 38 qualified members of the NBA Sapele branch that the ECNBA is hell bent to disenfranchise from voting in the upcoming election are unable to verify their names on the NBA website which keep saying “their records do not exist”.
We are compelled to write this subsequent letter of protest as we are fortified on the conviction that the NBA constitution as amended did not confer any power or right on the ECNBA to arbitrarily disenfranchise qualified members that are qualified to vote or be voted for in the NBA national election; as such the current organized action of the NBA when it unilaterally removed names of 38 members of NBA Sapele branch from the membership list of 102 names is unacceptable and we shall resist it with all constitutional or legal means at our disposal even if it warrant heading for the court. The NBA Sapele branch membership list is hereby attached for ease of reference.
In the circumstance we humbly request the ECNBA to release and upload the names and data of the 38 NBA members into the NBA website and give them access to verify their names for the purpose of voting in the National election proposed for the 19th and 20th of August, 2018. As a last resort, the NBA Sapele branch hereby humbly call on the leadership of the National NBA to call the ECNBA to order and prevail on it to stop the organized plan to disenfranchise our 38 qualified members from voting in the upcoming election.
Finally, at the risk of repetition we appeal to the leadership of the National NBA to kindly advise the ECNBA to upload the names of the 38 NBA qualified members into the NBA website and allow them access to verify their names to enable them vote in the election.
