NBA Lekki Forum makes Impactful presence at the NBA June NEC in Abuja

The recently concluded National Executive Committee meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association held at the NBA House, Abuja , Federal Capital Territory was a grand opportunity for the representatives of the Forum, Messrs Ayo Ademiluyi and Seymour Omolulu Azeez , Secretary and Assistant Secretary of the Forum respectively to push the case for accreditation of Lekki Branch. It would be recalled that the formal application for the accreditation of the Branch has been duly submitted to the NEC session held in February, 2019 through the General Secretary. The application was signed by 50 lawyers pursuant to the provisions of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Mr. Ayo Ademiluyi, the Secretary of the Forum , who arrived early for the NEC on Wednesday, 19th June had a discussion with the General Secretary, Mr. Jonathan Taidi at the NBA House on the status of the pending application. Mr. Taidi assured Mr. Ademiluyi of the fact that the application would be taken in due course as the NEC scheduled to hold the next day is to principally discuss the preparation for the Annual General Conference of the NBA among sundry issues.

Mr. Ademiluyi also participated in the Welcome Dinner of the Yoruba Lawyers Forum (Egbe Amofin Yoruba) where he interacted with several NEC delegates from many branches of the NBA and the FCT, Abuja , who conceded the fact that an additional branch in Lagos State will do not harm. Mr. Ademiluyi also spoke with Mrs. Foluke Dada, the 2nd Vice President who promised to advocate for the creation of the Branch as part of the Western Zone that she is constitutionally mandated to monitor. Mr. Ademiluyi also attended the Pre- NEC dinner , where the push for NBA Lekki Branch gained echo.

On the day of the NEC itself, Mr. Ademiluyi further interacted with more NEC delegates, who warmly received the appeal for the NBA Lekki Branch. Mr. Ademiluyi was able to enter the NEC Floor as observer where he observed the discussions in the proceedings relating to the report of the Technical Committee on the Annual CONFERENCE Planning, the report of the Annual Conference of the Section on Legal Practice and the report of the Section on Business Law on its upcoming Annual Conference at Eko Hotel Lagos between 26th and 28th June, 2019 as well as the State of the Nation discussion on insecurity.

The crowning moment of the intervention was at the NEC Dinner, where Mr. Ayo Ademiluyi had the opportunity of meeting with the President of the NBA, Mr. Paul Usoro , one-on-one and he gave assurance to look at the application. We are also grateful to our Patron, Mr. Tayo Oyetubo SAN , who spoke with Mr. Paul Usoro before the NEC as the President acknowledged same.

Going forward, the challenge is to deepen the activities of the Forum and work towards the itemisation of our application on the agenda of the next substantive NEC in October after the Pre- AGC NEC in August.

Further reports on the outcome of the NEC will be available soonest.

Dated this 21st day of June , 2019 in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory,

AYO ADEMILUYI ESQ
Secretary

S.O. AZEEZ ESQUIRE
Assistant Secretary
