NBA 2018 Elections: Electoral Committee Releases Guidelines, Zoning formula and dates of election

PRELIMINARY NOTICE OF ELECTION 2018

 

PURSUANT TO SECTION 9(2) AND PARAGRAPH 2(5) OF THE SECOND SCHEDULE OF THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION CONSTITUTION (AMENDED AND ADOPTED AT THE AGM ABUJA ON 27TH AUGUST 2015)

 

The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association appointed to conduct elections into national offices of the Nigerian Bar Association in 2018 hereby issues this preliminary notice of election as follows:

1.   That Election into national offices of the Nigerian Bar Association by its members shall be conducted by E- Voting commencing from Friday 27th July 2018 at 23:59 hours and end on Saturday 28th July 2018 at 23:59hours.
2.   That the offices for which members or candidates will be eligible to contest on the basis of rotation among the three(3) Zones prescribed by paragraph 2.2(b) of the extant constitution of the NBA (As Amended) and their qualifications are as appearing hereunder:

3.   The list of states that make up the respective Zones are set out in paragraphs 2.2(e)(i), (ii) and (iii) of the extant NBA Constitution (As Amended).
4.  A candidate for any elective national office shall be nominated or proposed in writing by a member and seconded by another member both of whom shall be qualified like the candidate in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Constitution for the equivalent office and in good standing with their practicing fees and all other Branch levies.
5.   For the avoidance of doubt, the States that make up each of the zones are highlighted as follows:

Eastern zone are_ Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra , Bayelsa, Cross Rivers, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo and Rivers.

Northern zone are– Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara and FCT- Abuja

Western Zone are– Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo

6.  All nominations are to be submitted not later than 4p.m on the Thursday 31st May, 2018.

All duly completed nomination forms should be sealed and addressed to:-
