Lawyers must Deduct and Remit VAT to FIRS – Court of Appeal [ Download Full Judgment]

The Court of Appeal, Jos Division has held that  the First Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has right to demand Value added Tax (VAT) from Lawyers and Law firms.

The court in its judgment stated that Lawyers and Lawfirms are now liable to deduct VAT from clients and remit to the FIRS.

BarristerNG recalls that the Law Firm of Al Maseer had challenged VAT assessment on the Law Firm on the ground that legal services are not liable to VAT.
