Lagos boat accident: 12 bodies recovered, five still missing
The Lagos State Waterways Authority says it has so far recovered 12 bodies of victims of the boat accident at Egbin in the Ijede area of Ikorodu.
The accident occurred on Saturday, around 9.30pm.
The General Manager, LASWA, Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, confirmed the number of the corpses so far recovered on Tuesday, adding that five more bodies had yet to be recovered.
He said LASWA, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the Lagos State Ambulance Service and the Nigeria Police Force had intensified efforts to recover the remaining bodies.
Emmanuel said LASEMA had taken the corpses of the victims, whose family members were not on the ground, to the mortuary, while those whose families had come forward had been claimed.
Punch Metro had reported that there were only three survivors out of the 26 passengers in the boat, which capsized after being hit by severe waves.
The boat had left a jetty at Badore, Ajah and was conveying the passengers to Egbin.
It was gathered that there were no life jackets in the boat for the use of the passengers.
