Ikorodu Branch Leaders query NBA Presidents’ refusal to remit monies due to the Branch
The leaders of NBA Ikorodu branch has appealed to NBA Presiednt, Paul Usoro to release the monies due to the branch from lawyers annual practicing fees.
The Chairman of the Branch, Bayo Akinlade Esq prayed the NBA President, via a whatsApp message, to do the right thing and release the branch’s money for the welfare of the branch.
The Ikorodu NBA branch secretary has at the just concluded NBA Annual General Meeting appealed to Mr. Paul Usoro, SAN, to reconsider his decision of arbitrarily withholding the Branch’s monies.
It has been 2 weeks since the appeal of the Secretary of the NBA Ikorodu Branch on the floor of the AGM but nothing has been done to remedy the situation as the funds are yet to be released into the Branch account.
The NBA President’s refusal to pay the 10 percent Bar practicing fees accruing to the Ikorodu NBA branch may not be unconnected with his failed attempt to remove the Ikorodu Branch Chairman and replace him with an unelected lackey.
Following a fall out between the Ikorodu Branch Chairman, Bayo Akinlade and NBA President, Mr Paul Usoro SAN over a bye election conducted by the Branch to elect its leaders, the NBA President has sought to arbitrarily remove the Ikorodu Branch Chairman from office as punishment for disobeying his instructions to shelve the bye election, but a lagos High court, on the prayers of human right activist, Femi Falana, quashed the NBA president’s actions and returned the Ikorodu Chairman to his office and privileges.
The NBA President has since refused to accord the Ikorodu Branch their dues in reaction to the court ruling.
A leader of the Branch who spoke to BarristerNG on condition of anonymity queried Usoro’s commitment to both rule of law and financial transparency;
“Can someone please help me find out why the “financial prudent” national executives of our NBA refuses to give NBA Ikorodu Branch its 10% of BPF PAID?” ………. He queried. “If this is the NBA we hoped for? Is this how we face the future? Is this just and equitable? A small branch is being oppressed and victimized in such a brazen manner? This is the work of those we call learned friends, what moral ground do they stand on to correct government highhandedness?”
Below is the message sent by the Chairman of the branch to NBA President;
Message to NBA President regarding UNPAID 10% TO NBA IKORODU BRANCH
Good morning Mr. President. Greetings to you and happy weekend.
I respectfully request that the 10% due to NBA Ikorodu Branch be paid by the treasurer.
The funds belong to the members of the branch who dutifully paid their BPF as at when due.
It will interest you to know that our branch members actually benefit DIRECTLY from the payment of thier dues.
The 10% goes to our welfare account from which we provide free monthly medical check ups for members.
We thank you for your prompt response in this matter.
Bayo Akinlade Esq
Chairman, NBA Ikorodu Branch
