FCT High Court Abuja Cancels 10% filling charge on court processes
Finally, the payment of 10% charge in filing of court processes at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja is a thing of the past as same has been cancelled.
This was confirmed on Wednesday, 22nd May, 2019, by a registry staff of the FCT High Court and a staff of ASO Savings bank, Maitama, FCT, Abuja, the Bank responsible for the collection of the 10% charge.
When BarristerNG asked whether there was a notice to that effect, the answer was in the negative.
Recall that the process charge (10% of filing fees) commenced since 22nd August, 2016 with a Notice of the FCT High Court. It was also provided for in the Rules of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory for the purpose of E-filing / Court Case Management System Platform, as contained in a public notice issued and signed by the Management of the Court to lawyers and the general public. However, the E-Filing /Case Management system platform was never initiated.
It was all joy when BarristerNG inquired from Lawyers as to the new development, they testified to the non existence of the 10% increase on processes filed in court since April and praised the ingenuity of the Abuja based young lawyer, Mr. Hameed Ajibola Jimoh who petitioned Authorities on the arbitrary charge.
BarristerNG could not confirm whether the cancellation was as a result of the petition of 5th November, 2018, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the compulsory payment of the 10% Charge.
Lawyers in Abuja that spoke to BarristerNG are very excited about the non payment of 10% Charge in filing fees.
