Drama as Paul Usoro Ignores Court Order on Ikorodu Branch, Replaces Branch Chairman with Another
There was mild drama today as delegates of the National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA-NEC assembled in Abuja for their Quarterly meeting when the Chairman of Ikorodu Branch of the Association, Mr Bayo Akinlade was denied his dues and hotel accommodation on the direction of the NBA President Paul Usoro. In his place, the NBA President replaced him with Ezekiel Ogbaide, the controversial ex-Vice Chairman of the Branch.
This is against the order of a Lagos High Court which ordered the NBA President to retain Mr Akinlade as the Ikorodu Chairman pending the conclusion of a case filed against the NBA President by the Ikorodu Branch Chairman.
Mr Usoro had attempted suspending the Ikorodu Branch Chairman through the NEC for disobeying his direction but was stopped by a Lagos High Court that ordered that Mr Akinlade retain his position pending the determination of the case.
However, when Mr Akinlade arrived Abuja for the statutory meeting of the Association, His name was replaced with that of Mr Ezekiel Ogbaide.
Information available to BarristerNG shows that attempts by the NBA Welfare Secretary, Joshua Enamali and Publicity Secretary, Kunle Edun to find Mr Akinlade an alternative accommodation was thwarted by a strict direction from the NBA President that no privilege of a chairman should be accorded Mr Akinlade.
BarristerNG gathered that Mr Akinlade later made his personal arrangement for accommodation inside Abuja Town.
It is not clear whether the Ikorodu chairman will be allowed into the venue of the meeting tomorrow.
