Anambra NBA Branches call off planned Court Boycott as Chief Judge starts process to amend controversial court rules

The Nigerian Bar Association Branches in Anambra State has called off the planned boycott of courts in the state after a meeting with the Representatives of the Chief Judge of the state,

In a press release sent to BarristerNG by the Chairman of Chairmen, Paschal C. Ugwuanyi Esq, the call off was made necessary after assurances from the representatives of the Chief Judge led by Hon, Justice O.M Anyachebelu and a subsequent letter calling for proposals for the amendment of the court rules.

The Committee however asked the Chief Judge to suspend further application of the new Rules pending their required amendments

In view of the letter dated 6th day of June,2019, coupled with some assurances made to the committee of chairmen and secretaries of NBA, Anambra state on Thursday,the 6th day of June ,2019 by the representatives of the Ag.Chief Judge of Anambra state( lead by Hon. Justice O. M. Anyachebelu )during a meeting held at Awka, Anambra state and considering some  interventions from other well meaning Nigerians ,the following resolutions were  reached and made by the committee of chairmen and secretaries of NBA, Anambra state:
(1) The proposed boycott of courts by all lawyers in Anambra state which was scheduled to commence on Monday,the 10th day of June ,2019 is here by suspended till further notice.
(2)The Court Rules should be subjected to some amendments within the shortest possible time.
(3) The Ag Chief Judge of Anambra state is requested to suspend further application of the new Rules pending their required amendments. Thanks…
