Ada promised to celebrate Easter with me, says mum of 20-year-old girl killed by Police in Ajegunle
The mother of the victim of Police shooting death in Ajegunle, Lagos, has said that her murdered daughter, Ada Ifeanyi, had promised to celebrate Easter with her.
Speaking to our reporter on Sunday afternoon, an inconsolable Mrs. Mercy John lamented the death of her daughter, wondering what the young lady did to warrant the brutal death meted to her by the policemen attached to Trinity Police Station in Ajegunle area of Lagos.
Ada and a male escort, 32-year-old Emmanuel Akomafuwa, were reportedly shot by a group of six policemen on Saturday at about 7am.
A third person who was also in their company has since been identified as one Faith.
Lamenting her loss, Ada’s grieving mother said: “I spoke with her on Friday afternoon and she promised to come see me next week so we could celebrate Easter together.
“She’s a daughter I don’t want to miss in life. She had a loving heart, she was friendly and didn’t like trouble.
“When they called me around 7am that my daughter had been shot by the Police, I rushed down there and saw my child lying dead. A girl of just 20 years died like a chicken!
“What did they find on her that made them fire her? If they had shot the tyre, at least the car would stop.
“Is that what the government want for us? I want justice for my child!”
Our reporter had caught up with Mrs. John at Ajegunle area of Lagos, where Ada resided with her father.
Family and friends told our reporter that some policemen on motorcycle started chasing Ada and her friends and eventually shot at them when they failed to stop.
While Ada did not survive the gunshot, doctors are reportedly still battling to save the life of Emmanuel Akomafuwa, who sustained grievous injuries to the head from the gunshot.
The third person in the car, identified as Faith, was unhurt, our reporter learned.
Ada’s parents and siblings wept uncontrollably as they shared memories of their last moments with their slain relation.
It was gathered that Ada’s parents have not been living together. While her mother lives at Iyana-Iba area of Lagos, her father resides in Ajegunle.
Mrs. John said she had only one wish: To see her daughter alive again.
“I wish she could live again for me, but it’s impossible! She’s gone forever!” the bereaved mother wailed as she broke down in tears.
Unlike his wife, however, Ada’s father was quiet most of the time, and only said, “I love her so much. All I want is justice.”
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command says it has identified the six policemen responsible for the Saturday incident. Five of them have been arrested, while one, Inspector Dania Ojo, is currently on the run and have been declared wanted,
The five policemen that have been arrested in connection with Ada Ifeanyi’s murder are: Inspector Adamu Usman, Sergeant Adeyeye Adeoye, Sergeant Kashim Tijani, Sergeant Lucky Akigbe and, Sergeant Paul Adeoye.
