Abuja-Kaduna highway kidnappers return, abduct ‘many travelers’ day after Gov. El-Rufai’s ‘encounter’

Daredevil kidnappers have struck again along Abuja-Kaduna expressway, abducting many travelers.

The governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai’s convoy on Wednesday foiled an attempted kidnapping of travelers along the highway.

The governor who was on his way to Abuja got to the Akilibu village around 3:40pm, sighted dozens of vehicles parked by citizens alarmed that kidnappers were ahead. Led by his security operatives, the governor’s convoy advanced and cleared the road of the criminals who fled into the forest.

But credible sources told DAILY NIGERIAN on Thursday that the kidnappers returned to the road again and kidnapped “more than 10 people” a day after the governor’s security details dispersed them.

A resident of a nearby village, Hamza Jere told DAILY NIGERIAN on phone that the incident occurred at Kurmin Kare — one kilometer away from Akilibu village — at 2:30pm.

“The kidnappers started the brief operation around 2:30pm and left shortly after successfully abducting the travellers.

“Three cars belonging to the travellers were sighted as the kidnappers led the occupants into the bush,” he said.

According to him, no reported case of death or injury.

Spokesman for Kaduna Police Command, Yakubu Sabo, however denied the incident, saying “nothing happened at that particular area today [thursday].”
